The University of the Azores (UAc) is the only public university in the Azores and is committed to contributing to higher education and sustainable development in the region. It has facilities in Ponta Delgada (São Miguel), Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira), and Horta (Faial). The laboratories on its three campuses and the available equipment—funded by international, national, and regional projects and anchored in R&D centers, supported by a technology-based business incubator (inUAc)—give the University of the Azores the capacity to develop high-quality, innovative scientific projects. The UAc team members participating in this project, from the Azores Biodiversity Group by the Azores Biotechnology Center, have experience in areas relevant to the project, as demonstrated by their publications and involvement in research projects. These include Dr. Ana Seca, a specialist in Natural Products Chemistry; Dr. Maria do Carmo Barreto, a specialist in Natural Products Bioactivity; and Dr. Duarte Toubarro, a specialist in proteomics and bioactive peptide purification using innovative techniques. The laboratories located in the Science Complex—associated with the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Azores Biodiversity Group, and the Azores Biotechnology Center—enable the implementation of high-quality research projects.
UAc in NATUR-EXT: will ensure the management of all technical and financial aspects of the project under its responsibility to guarantee successful implementation, making sure that the resources made available by the project are appropriately allocated to the goals and objectives defined in the proposal. In addition to management, researchers from the University of the Azores will also participate in the implementation, coordination, and communication activities of the project.
