CEPSA, now MOEVE, is a Spanish company and a leader in the national and international energy sector, focused on oil production and refining, as well as the commercialization of derived products.
Its active collaboration with the Biotechnology Department of the ITC is focused, within the BioIndustry field, specifically on the generation of raw material that can be converted into biofuels and sustainable chemical products from natural-origin biomass obtained through the recovery of waste from other industrial processes.
This collaboration is part of its Positive Motion 2030 strategy, through which Cepsa aims to lead sustainable mobility and the production of biofuels and green hydrogen in Spain and Portugal, driving the decarbonization of land, maritime, and air transport within a framework of energy transition.
MOEVE in NATUR-EXT: will contribute to achieving the project’s objectives, with particular focus on the optimization of operational conditions for supercritical extraction technology. This pioneering technique in the Canary Islands will require studies on the selection of pre-treatment methods for the biomass of interest prior to supercritical extraction as an essential design parameter; and optimization studies of the extraction technique in terms of extraction efficiency and scaling of the experimental proposal.
Its contribution at this stage of the project will therefore consist of participation in workshops and meetings to monitor progress and help define operational parameters, while also optimizing them from the standpoint of energy efficiency and economic profitability. Its role will also be essential in guiding and advising on the industrial scalability of extraction techniques—from experimental research to scale-up—thanks to its extensive experience in this area.
The company’s contribution will be key to understanding the market viability and reach of the extracted products from a business perspective. Identifying the potential commercial interest of the various extracts will allow for the selection of target compounds that are attractive for driving the industrial sector forward.
