The Canary Islands Institute for Agricultural Research (ICIA) is an Autonomous Agency of the Government of the Canary Islands, attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water. It was established by Law 4/1995 of March 27, which created the Canary Islands Institute for Agricultural Research and the Advisory Council for Agricultural Research (BOC No. 40, April 3, 1995). Article 3 of the law states that its objectives are the planning, execution, and monitoring of agricultural research activities, as well as the development and transfer of agricultural technologies within the Canary Islands, in addition to any other agricultural R&D tasks assigned by the competent bodies of the regional public administration.
ICIA in NATUR-EXT: ICIA will participate in the identification, optimization, and validation of mature compounds derived from tropical fruit biomass with notable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and other bioactivities (OE1). ICIA will also take part, under OE2, in the propagation and establishment of selected plant species for the extraction of valuable molecules. The selected species (Astydamia latifolia and Tanacetum cinerariifolium) were chosen based on their ability to restore degraded soils and adapt to arid zones. The influence of soil and climate conditions on crop adaptation and compound concentration will be evaluated (e.g., land preparation, irrigation regimes, phenological stage, etc.).
