Canaturex is a Canary Islands–based company dedicated to the production of cochineal (Dactylopius coccus), recognized as a Priority Agricultural Holding within the archipelago. Its activity focuses on cultivating this species on prickly pear cacti, with the aim of obtaining high-quality dried cochineal, a raw material traditionally used to produce carminic acid—a high-value natural colorant used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals.
As a company linked to the biotechnology sector, Canaturex seeks to incorporate innovation and technological support to improve its production processes and upcycle the biomass it generates. Its participation in NATUR-EXT represents an opportunity to contribute natural-origin biomass to support research and the extraction of valuable compounds.
CANATUREX in NATUR-EXT: It will contribute mainly through the supply of cochineal biomass for extraction trials.
