Renewable biological natural resources as a source of extraction compounds to boost the industrial, science and technology sectors, within a framework of circular economy and ecological sustainability.
The Macaronesia region, renowned for its marine and terrestrial biodiversity, faces challenges in sustainably exploiting its resources due to lack of technical development and scientific‑technical support. The NATUR‑EXT project aims to overcome these barriers through the creation of an innovative biotechnological platform that fosters a circular economy, boosts the bioindustry and promotes the use of marine and terrestrial biomass. This approach will yield high‑value products for industrial sectors, supporting local development and its international projection.

Scope: a drive for progress that crosses Macaronesian borders
The Natur‑Ext project promotes sustainability and innovation through international cooperation. In Africa, we collaborate with institutions in Senegal, Ghana and São Tomé and Príncipe on developing extraction technologies, innovative techniques and aquaculture feeds. In the Americas, we partner with universities in Mexico and Chile to create diets and food supplements from renewable biomass.
Optimization and validation of extraction techniques for high‑value compounds from native biomass

NATUR-EXT Project (1/MAC/2/2.6/0075), approved under the 1st call for proposals of the Interreg MAC 2021–2027 Programme and co-financed at 85% by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within Priority 2 “Smart MAC – Enhancing business competitiveness through innovative and smart economic transformation” and Specific Objective 1.1 “Develop and enhance research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies.”
